As a follow–up to our May 8th email, we said we would give everyone an update on our season plans by no later than Monday, June 1st. We cannot thank everyone enough for their patience and understanding as we navigate through these unprecedented times and circumstances. Most importantly, we hope everyone is doing well.
The HTLL executive board has discussed our options and we have decided to officially cancel the Spring 2020 HTLL season. This was not an easy decision for the board, and one we do not take lightly. After hearing Governor Murphy’s press conference this afternoon regarding the June 22nd date on when outdoor practices can begin, and with no timeline in regards to when games can commence, we believe this is the appropriate action to take at this time. We hope everyone understands that this decision was not made easily, or without great discussion and debate between the board members. Listed below are some additional information regarding refunds, a potential summer league and all stars.
Little League International has suggested each local organization refund between 50-70% of the players registration fee when a decision is made to cancel. We have examined our financials and determined which expenses HTLL cannot recover. Some examples include: insurance costs, membership dues, advertising, field maintenance and indoor field rentals for minors and majors level player evaluations over the winter. These are all costs that cannot be deferred and are recognized as losses in 2020. With that said, we are able to do a little better than the Little League International recommendation and offer a 75% refund. Refunds will be processed starting Monday, June 8th. Please allow up to two weeks for your refund to be returned. If you wish to donate this year’s registration fee, please email our Treasurer, Todd Dell at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Friday, June 5th. If possible, donations would be greatly appreciated to help to continue to improve our complex for our kids!
The board is discussing the feasibility of a summer league and we will be providing more details in the near future once we get a better handle on when games can commence. Stay tuned.
While the Little League World Series has been cancelled, there is still a chance that there may be some sort of All Star Tournament within our district, section and/or state. Those discussions are being had outside of HTLL. If the district forms a tournament, and our park is open for youth sports, HTLL will look to form a team and host an open tryout for those players that are interested in participating. We recognize there is no greater pride and memory than representing your town, and we don’t want our boys and girls to miss out on that experience should the opportunity arise. Especially, for those kids in their last year of Little League.
Be safe, be healthy and enjoy your summer.
